Editor's note: He broke the 13-year-old world record and crowned Olympic champion at Athens. In 2008, he bowed out with an injury, stunning the home crowd at the Bird's Nest. On August 7, 2012, Liu Xiang failed to finish the race after crashing at the first barrier in the 110m hurdles heats at the London Olympic Games.
