Dough figurine molding is a traditional Chinese folk art of long standing. The figurines are like small sculptures made of flour and pigments that are formed using scissors, bamboo knives and small combs. In the process of molding, craftsmen work with great concentration and the dough figurines that come from their hands are lifelike and attractive – they include figures of birds, beasts and historical and mythical figures. In the following pictures, Liu Jie, a young craftsman from Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei Province, displays his excellent skill in dough figurine molding and his latest work. The local government attaches great importance to the protection of this folk art and does everything possible to further develop it.
