Children attend First Writing Ceremony

8月28日,108名即将上小学的儿童身着明代汉服,走进南京大报恩寺遗址公园参加开笔礼,在大报恩塔下通过朱砂点智、抽取孔子志向签、击鼓明志、学写“恩”字等仪式环节,寄托开启智慧、明确志向、早日成才等美好愿望。[中新社 泱波 摄]
Children participate in a First Writing Ceremony at the Dabaoen Temple in Nanjing City, the capital of East China's Jiangsu Province, Aug. 28, 2016. A total of 108 children set to start elementary school attended the ceremony, also known as the Enlightenment Ceremony. The ceremony is usually held in the local Confucius temple, where soon-to-be students wear traditional costumes and teachers place a red dot on each child's forehead, signifying the opening of wisdom's eye in Chinese traditional culture.
