Wuhan University doctoral student Akib Javed shared his research findings in flood prediction involving the application of artificial intelligence technologies at the 2017 National Postdoctoral Academic Forum in Hengqin New Area on Dec. 19.

Researchers could provide more accurate weather predictions and monitor flood waters from torrential rains by augmenting weather simulation systems with data collected via global navigation satellite systems, geographic information systems and remote sensing systems, Javed said.

Hailing from Bangladesh, Javed works at the State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing at Wuhan University.

The student added that the development of big data and artificial intelligence will offer better solutions with more accuracy for processing unwieldy masses of data for environmental disaster relief purposes.
