电焊罩、胶皮手套、防毒口罩是铁路电焊工必备的防护用具。温素霞进行的是焊条电弧焊作业，利用电弧放电产生的热量将焊条与工件互相熔化，并在冷凝后形成焊缝，从而获得牢固接头的焊接。
These are the welding tools and protective clothing used by Wen Suxia – a welding mask, a pair of leather gloves and a mask-type respirator for poison gas. Wen's work is known as manual welding, in which the heat generated by an electric arc melts the workpiece and the electrode to form a welding seam which, after cooling and condensation, can form a firm joint.
