2018年8月25日，上海，建设中的世界最大天文馆——上海天文馆（上海科技馆分馆）举行新闻发布会，宣布中国首次完整回收陨石坑、首次获得西双版纳目击陨石全记录实证，形成了“火流星目击视频-陨石主体-主体陨石坑-科研成果-科普讲座-博物馆收藏”的完整实证。会上展示了近日上海科技馆工作人员和陨石猎人一同赴云南回收的西双版纳陨石雨中最大的主体陨石坑（N22°2ˊ6", E100°10ˊ29"），以及一号陨石和二号陨石实物。2018年6月1日21时45分左右，云南西双版纳傣族自治州景洪市上空突然出现一个火球，由东向西偏北方向飞行划过夜空。西双版纳陨石雨先后共发现500余块石陨石，总重量不超过50公斤，分类为普通球粒陨石L6型，正在向国际陨石学会申请命名为“曼桂陨石”。[视觉中国]
