12th China-LAC Business Summit opens with shared concern

Some 1,700 guests from home and abroad took part in the 12th China-LAC Business Summit, which raised curtain today at the Zhuhai International Convention & Exhibition Center in Shizimen Central Business District (CBD).

Themed "Promoting Belt & Road global cooperation, seizing new opportunities for China-LAC economic and trade development," the three-day summit will explore ways to promote China-LAC trade and investment, boost the transformation and upgrade of pragmatic partnership, and fulfill higher-level joint development and mutually beneficial cooperation. The issues will cover infrastructure, finance, global value chains, and service trade.

Present are 600 foreign representatives from more than 40 countries and regions and 1,100 State government leaders, financial experts, local officials, representatives of international organizations, and business associations in China.

Three plenary sessions -- Promoting a New Chapter in the China-LAC Partnership and a Shared Future for International Cooperation, Seizing New Opportunities in China-LAC Commercial Relations and the Global Economy, and Enhancing Infrastructure & Connectivity -- are on the agenda.

Meanwhile, four parallel sessions regarding financial integration and collaboration, promoting value chain integration and collaboration, accelerating services sector opportunities, and seizing business opportunities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area will he held during the summit.

Also on tap are a galaxy of activities including China-LAC Trade Exhibition, roundtable meetings for trade promotion organizations, business matchmakings, investment promotion seminars, economic and trade relations symposiums, agreement signing ceremonies, as well as the China-LAC Soccer Cooperation Forum.

More than 550 exhibitors from 44 countries and territories including 19 Latin American countries are showcasing their products at the 20,000 sq m China-LAC Trade Exhibition, which encompasses China-LAC Cooperation & Key Enterprise Hall, Latin American National Pavilion & Feature Hall, China-LAC Economic & Trade Hall, and China-LAC Commodity Area.

Top-performing Chinese enterprises such as State Grid Corp of China (SGCC), China Communication Construction Co (CCCC), China Baowu Steel Group Corp, and Gree Electric Appliances of Zhuhai are attending.

A variety show themed "A Shared Dream, A Splendid World" was staged at Huafa & CPAA Grand Theater on the evening of Oct 31. It highlighted classical Chinese dances and instrumental music, Samba, Merengue, Cha-Cha and other highly characterized folk dances by performers from China and Latin American and Caribbean countries.

Initiated by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) in 2007 as the first comprehensive conference of its kind, the China-LAC Business Summit is held annually in China and LAC countries on a rotating basis. Up to now, 11 summits have been convened in China, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, Mexico and Uruguay.

CCPIT co-sponsors the event along with the Guangdong Provincial Government, People's Bank of China, and Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The China Chamber of International Commerce and Zhuhai government are the organizers.
