Hengqin kicks off a series of postdoctoral events

The third-phase projects signing ceremony and 3rd Symposium of the Hong Kong Scholars Program were held on Nov. 16 in Hengqin New Area, Zhuhai city. 

Yu Jiadong, director of the department of professionals and technical personnel management, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (MHRSS), and director of the Office of China National Postdoctoral Council, and Alexander Wai, chairman of the Society of Hong Kong Scholars, signed the cooperative agreement. 

Li Weihui, deputy secretary of the CPC Hengqin New Area Committee, welcomed guests and said Hengqin will make particular efforts in the areas of system innovation, platform construction, and supporting services to attract more talents. 

Yuk-Shan Wong, chairman of the Academic Committee of the Hong Kong Scholars Program, said great success has been achieved since the program was launched eight years ago, and signing of the program’s third-phase projects marks cooperation will reach a new height. 

The program is a joint training program for post-doctoral researchers between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong. The areas of expertise of the researchers focus on basic research, biomedicine, information technology, agriculture, new energy, new materials and advanced manufacturing. 

The signing ceremony of the program was the first of a series of postdoctoral events to be held in Hengqin from mid-November to mid-December.
