Guide to Prevent Pneumonia Caused by the Novel Coronavirus for People with Residence or Travel History in Epidemic Areas

The pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus is a new disease. The general public should better protect themselves against this epidemic. In order to help international friends to acquire relevant knowledge of prevention, Hubei Provincial Foreign Affairs Office has compiled and translated this guide into multiple languages according to the Public Prevention Guide provided by the National Health Commission. The following is the Guide to Prevent Pneumonia Caused by the Novel Coronavirus for People with Residence or Travel History in Epidemic Areas. The guide applies to those who have lived in or traveled to epidemic areas like Wuhan in the past two weeks.

I. Register your information at the village or community administration. Reduce outdoor activities and avoid visits to crowded public places.

II. Monitor your health condition twice a day for 14 consecutive days after leaving the epidemic area. As much as possible, you should stay in a separate house or a different room from other people where the ventilation is good. Minimize close contacts with other household members.

III. Seek prompt medical attention once you have suspicious symptoms including fever, coughing, sour throat, chest distress, dyspnea, mildly poor appetite, fatigue, mild lethargy, nausea, diarrhea, headache, palpitation, conjunctivitis, mildly sore limb or back muscles, etc. Please follow the suggestions below on the way to the doctor.

1. Wear a surgical or N95 mask.

2. If available, do not use public transportation and keep the car window open.

3. Wear a facemask and keep hands clean at all times. Stay at least one meter away from other people on the way to or in the hospital.

4. Use disinfectants containing chlorine or peracetic acid to sterilize the vehicle if it is contaminated by the respiratory secretions or body fluids of the patient.
