As released by Zhang Baoguo, deputy director of the State Development
Planning Commission, Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen will give
a trial broadcast of high-definition (HD) TV and a schedule
for its popularity is to be worked out.
To meet the requirements
of transformation of scientific achievements as stipulated
the "10th Five-year Plan", he said, special attention
has been given to the industrialization of high technology,
such as: 3G mobile communications, HD color TV sets, live
broadcasting satellite, broadband mobile communications, transformation
technology of coal, and digital products, etc.
As a pleasing change
in the aspect of high technology, China has seen more products
with her own independent intellectual property rights, such
as TD-SCDMA, which has been accepted as the standard for 3G
mobile communications. We have installed three systems in
the field of high-definition color TV set and are currently
conducting tests. The State Development Planning Commission
has planned to launch trial transmission of high-definition
TV in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen this year and work out
the schedule for its penetration into families.
