China should step up efforts in making laws, and implementing
and popularizing them so as to provide legal insurance for the
implementation of the country's Tenth Five-Year Plan (2001-2005),
said Jiang Chunyun, vice chairman of the Standing Committee
of the National People's Congress.
Jiang, also a member
of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Chinese
Communist Party, said as China is now in a crucial period
of reforms and opening, it is necessary to enhance efforts
to improve the legal system so as to guarantee the success
of reforms and opening and the implementation of the country's
Tenth Five-Year Plan.
It is a common
task facing the entire party and society to build a socialist
legal system, he said.
Jiang made the
remarks while visiting Wuhan, Xiangfan and Yichang in Hubei
Province, April 9-16.
During his tour,
Jiang held discussions with local officials, experts and lawmakers
on law-building.
