Northwest China's Gansu Province has pledged to build 10 export-oriented
production bases in the upcoming five years.
The bases will
produce large-screen color display screens and liquid crystal
screens, new materials, electronic and network products, farm
produce, biological and medical products, fine chemicals,
machines and farming tools.
The government
decision to establish these bases was made on the basis of
foreign trade growth in the country's Ninth Five-Year Plan
period (1996-2000) and changing market demand, said an official
with the provincial Economic and Trade Commission.
Upon completion
of the production bases, the annual export value of Gansu
will be doubled and will be able to keep up with the growth
of the national rate, he added.
Meanwhile, Gansu
will push ahead with reforms of foreign trade systems, including
opening foreign trade enterprises to overseas investors and
expanding the power of management of non-public enterprises.
