Electronic Firecrackers Popular in Spring
Festival Firecrackers are traditionally let off as part of Chinese New Year celebrations, according to China Radio International.

But, they're banned in Beijing because of potential fire hazards and to protect the environment.

And, now a new cracker of an invention is helping people get into the holiday spirit.

The Beijing Morning Post is reporting that decorative firecrackers are becoming popular.

Different from traditional fire-powered ones, these run on batteries and sparkle when they're operated.

Authorities have declared the new products as safe and environmentally friendly.
