Biggest Gardenized Greenland to Be Built in Beijing

Experts involving city planning, gardening and architecture, etc. have recently put their heads together in Haidian District to make an examination and appraisal of the design for the construction of Wanliu Century Square. The project is as reported to start early next year and to be completed by the yearend of 2001.

Spreading out in the northeast of Wanliu area in Haidian District, the square is adjacent to a newly built Palace-gate Road by the north, up to the northwest section of the fourth ring road in the south with Wanquanhe Road to the east and neighboring the golf rink in design on the west. The total area comes to over 600 Mu (40 hectares), equals to 60 standard football grounds. 80 percent of the square is as required to be in green.

The Century Square must be in harmony with the ecology, environment and modernization and culture in the district that can match with the beauties of the Summer Palace and Jade Fountain Hill, said Zhu Shanlu, secretary of the Party branch of Haidian District.

Brought with them sand-tables, the seven units attending the bidding for the square design are all renowned institutions in the field of researches and designs.
