Zhu Calls for More Trade with ROK
Adjust font size:
Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji Wednesday proposed to expand Sino-Korean economic links and solve trade disputes.

At a banquet held by four Korean economic organizations, Zhu hailed the swift growth in bilateral economic and trade exchanges since the two countries established diplomatic relations eight years ago, and put forward four proposals for further cooperation.

First, Zhu proposed to improve bilateral partnership in all fields. The two sides should strengthen their dialogue and coordination on issues of common concern, such as regional stability and economic safety, he said. They should work to bring a sound Sino-ROK partnership -- based on mutual trust and comprehensive development -- into the new century through more extensive exchanges, Zhu said.

Second, new ways for economic cooperation should be broadened and explored, Zhu said.

Apart from traditional areas, the two sides could cooperate in the high and new technology, environment protection, iron and steel production, petrochemical and energy sectors.

Third, coordination in regional economic affairs should be improved, Zhu said.

Fourth, disputes should be settled promptly and adequately to ensure sound economic and trade exchanges. Zhu said it was natural that problems should arise during the fast development of bilateral cooperation.

The two sides, however, should look for practical and mutually beneficial solutions based on the principle of safeguarding the overall situation of bilateral friendly exchanges.
