HK Sportswoman Wins Int'l Triathlon

Hong Kong athlete Tani Mak won the women's Under-23 open title in the OSIM Singapore International Triathlon at the city state's East Coast Park at the weekend.

The 19-year-old completed her three events--a 1,500-meter swim, a 40-kilometer cycle and a 10-kilometer run -- in two hours 14 minutes and 36 seconds.

Australian Samantha Beenie won the women's open category with a time of two hours five minutes and 42 seconds.

Australian Bryce Quirk clinched victory in the men's open in one hour 49 minutes and 35 seconds. His compatriot Tim Porter won gold in the men's U-23 with a time of one hour 53 minutes and 46 seconds.

Approximately 3,500 athletes participated in the meeting which ended on Sunday. Total prize money for the event was US$16,100. 

The competition is one of the International Triathlon Union (ITU) events.
