Nine Die in NE China Expressway Accidents

A serious multi-vehicle road accident on an expressway between Beijing and Shenyang, capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province, has resulted in the deaths of nine people and serious injuries being sustained by 16 others, local police said Tuesday afternoon.

 

The pileup occurred at 6:25 AM Tuesday on the section of road between the cities of Jinzhou and Panjin in Liaoning. Heavy fog suddenly blanketed the area and caused the accident, said the transport safety bureau of the Public Security Department of Liaoning.

 

The accident involving 28 motor vehicles left nine dead and 72 hospitalized including 16 who were seriously injured and remained in critical condition, according to the bureau.

 

The section of the expressway which was the scene of the accident reopened to traffic at 11 AM Tuesday.
