Party Members, Cadres Uphold Investigation of Chen Liangyu

The Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the Shanghai Municipal Government and local Party members and cadres all resolutely upheld the CPC Central Committee's decision to investigate Chen Liangyu for his severe discipline violation and support the CPC's Central Committee's decision to appoint Han Zheng, mayor of Shanghai, as Chen's replacement.

They expressed their absolute resolve to maintain the stable and coordinated development of Shanghai's economy and society, and to fight corruption.

Chen was suspended from the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and party chief of Shanghai, according to a party decision made public on Monday.

The CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and the Shanghai Municipal Government highlighted the significance of the CPC Central Committee's decision to investigate Chen, believing that the CPC Central Committee's decision demonstrated a steely determination to intensify the fight against corruption.

Han Zheng, the acting secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, said all local Party members should study the essence of the CPC Central Committee and incorporate their consistency in mind and action into all government activities.

Han also asked local Party members to "especially cherish solidarity, considering the interests of the whole, maintain stability, strengthen their confidence, boost the morale, and be down-to-earth in their work in a bid to come up to the CPC Central Committee's expectations."

Shanghai has gained "good momentum" in economic and social development so far this year providing a stable plinth for the next five years, according to the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee.

The CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee called on local Party members and cadres to focus on the city's "development" by resolutely carrying out the CPC Central Committee's measures of macro-economic control. Local Party members and cadres were also asked to tackle problems which are directly related to the interests of the general public.

The CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Shanghai Municipal Government stated that they will push forward the fight against corruption and build a clean and honest government. They will earnestly investigate discipline and law violations and severely punish corrupt officials.

The CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and the Shanghai Municipal Government required cadres to reflect upon and draw lessons from the social security fund scandal, nip corruption in the bud and always be on the alert. These cadres should impose self-control and accept supervision.
