Top Advisory Body Fulfills Bounden Mission

As a top advisory body, the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) played its due role to the country's central authorities in policy making in the past year.

In the past year, the advisory body forwarded more than 4,000 proposals tabled by its members to the central authorities and related governmental departments for consideration and solution, spokesman Wu Jianmin of the CPPCC National Committee said Thursday.

Most of the proposals aroused attention and concern from the central authorities and related governmental departments, Wu said.

CPPCC members' advice and suggestions helped the policy-makers correctly and timely dispose many key issues in the past year, including the formulation of the 11th Five-Year Development Program, Wu said.

The blueprint for the country's economic and social development in the 2006-2010 period is expected to win the approval of lawmakers in the coming annual session of the National People's Congress (NPC).

The top consultants' voices were also reflected in the central authorities' first major document in 2006 released in late February, which was concentrated on rural issues, one of the country's priorities in recent years, Wu said.

The CPPCC is a patriotic united front organization of the Chinese people, serving as a key mechanism for multi-party cooperation and political consultation.

The 4th annual session of the Tenth National Committee of the CPPCC is to open Friday in Beijing.
