Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said on Tuesday that all sides in the six-party talks should faithfully fulfill their commitments to resolving the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.

"Facts have proven that the six-party talks is a practical and effective means to resolve the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue," said Li at a press conference on the sidelines of the ongoing annual parliament session.

Thanks for China's mediation and mutual efforts by the parties concerned, the third session of the fifth round of six-party talks has made progress, with a joint document on the first step toward the denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula adopted, Li said.

According to the joint document, working groups on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and other fields will start work at the latest within nine days.

The implementation of the joint document, as well as promoting the development of the six-party talks and the denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula, is of high importance to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in northeast Asia, Li said.

China advocates to peacefully resolve the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue through dialogues, and China is willing to keep close touch with all the parties concerned to make new progress in six-party talks, Li said.
