Generals Pledge Loyalty to Communist Party

Army deputies attending the current session of the National People's Congress (NPC) have vowed to follow the absolute leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) with General Secretary Jiang Zemin at the core.

The generals, including members of the Central Military Commission (CMC) Fu Quanyou, Yu Yongbo, Wang Ke and Wang Ruilin, agreed at a group discussion Wednesday that the Army must study and accomplish various tasks set by the Party Central Committee and the CMC.

Fu, the chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), urged military institutions of all levels to increase their sense of political responsibility and historic mission. The PLA should be constantly armed with Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory and a series of important instructions by Jiang Zemin, he noted.

Yu, the head of the PLA General Political Department, said that to adhere to the absolute leadership of the Party is the soul of the Army. He vowed to plant this concept deep in the minds of all the PLA officers and soldiers.

Wang Ke, the head of the PLA General Logistics Department, urged modernizing the Army's logistics sector under a market economy, while carrying on the good traditions of the PLA.

The quality of middle-level and senior PLA officers must be improved in line with the requirements of Jiang Zemin who chairs the CMC, said Wang Ruilin, deputy head of the PLA General Political Department.
