Thanks to the upcoming film premiere, The Painted Veil by Somerset Maugham has been published in Chinese and will be available in book stores this weekend.

Set in the 1920s, the novel tells the story of a young English couple who get married for all the wrong reasons and relocate to Hong Kong, where the wife falls in love with someone else. When the husband discovers the infidelity, he wreaks his revenge by accepting a job in a remote, disease-ravaged village in China and takes her along. Against all odds, the journey breathes new life to their relationship and provides them with a new sense of purpose.

Hollywood stars Naomi Watts and Edward Norton play the lead roles alongside China's Anthony Wong and Xia Yu.

The entire film was shot in China, taking in Shanghai, Beijing and the Guangxi province.

The film stays true to the novel, with a slight change at the end where one of the locations is changed from Hong Kong to Shanghai.

The film will be shown in Chinese cinemas starting from 29th December.
