Cui Jian and Jay Chou Share Stage Instead of Song

Despite the rumors of a much-anticipated collaboration between the "rock godfather" and the "pop king," Cui Jian and Jay Chou eventually ended up performing separately on the same stage.

The two both led a slew of musicians to present a hilarious three-show MTV-MOTO ROKR Concert, which greeted both rock and pop music fans in Qingdao, Hangzhou and Chengdu over the weekend.

Fans had geared up to expect a co-performance by Cui Jian and Jay Chou, both of whom are icons in their field.

However, each star appeared on the stage singing their best-known hits - alone.

Cui Jian, known as the godfather of Chinese rock, didn't make a clear-cut answer when asking about a cooperation, while Jay Chou was quoted by the tom.com website as saying that he hadn't even thought about it, because they do such different music.

The concert, jointly launched by MTV China, Motorola and Zhejiang Satellite Television Station, rallied top musicians in a bid to shun lip synching in live performances.

Besides Cui Jian and Jay Chou, other performers include Elva Hsiao and Yuan Quan from the pop category, and veteran rock musician Zheng Jun and the band New Pants.
