SUZHOU

Suzhou Industrial Park

 

The Suzhou Industrial Park is the biggest cooperative project between the governments of China and Singapore. The Park is now composed of an IT park, an international technology park, a life science park, a national software park and a SME park.

 

Geographical Location
Sitting beside Lake Jinji (Golden Rooster) in the eastern suburb of the Suzhou city, and eighty kilometers away from Shanghai, the Suzhou Industrial Park lies in the center of the Yangtze River Delta and the juncture of China's coastal economic open areas and the Yangtze River economic development belt.

Climate
The Park is favored by its subtropical monsoon oceanic climate with four distinct seasons. Its average temperature is 15.8 centigrade with the highest being 35 centigrade and the lowest -3 centigrade.The average annual rainfall is 1076.2 millimeters.

Communication and Transportation
Airport
Suzhou is 80 kilometers away from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport and 120 kilometers away from Shanghai Pudong International Airport; 200 kilometers away from Nanjing International Airport, 40 kilometers away from Suzhou Shuofang Airport and 10 kilometers away from Suzhou Guangfu Airport.

Harbor
100 kilometers away from Suzhou is the Port Shanghai with 104 10,000-tonne berths, 165 million tones of handling capacity annually; Port Zhangjiagang, a comprehensive port, is 96 kilometers away from Suzhou, with 8 million tons of annual handling capacity and 18 10,000-tonne berths: 70 kilometers away, Port Taicang, is a petroleum handling port with 30 10,000-tonne berths; Port Changshu, a chemical port, 60 kilometers away, is capable of handling 1.5 million tones annually at its 120,000 TEU container wharf and the 300,000-tonne wharf for general purposes.

Road
Presently, the total length of highways in the area of Suzhou reaches 2,025 kilometers, with a density of 21.46 km per square kilometers. The main roads connecting Suzhou with other places include: national highways No. 204 (Yantai-Qingdao-Suzhou-Shanghai), No. 312 (Shanghai-Suzhou-Xinjiang), and No. 318 (Shanghai-Suzhou-Tibet), Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway, the Airport Expressway linking Suzhou with Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport,Beijng-Jiangshu-Shanghai Expressway and Suzhou-Jiaxing-Hangzhou Expressway.

Railway
Suzhou is a stop along the national trunk line of Beijing-Shanghai Railway.

Human Resources
At present, there are 9 universities, 46 schools for adult further education and 63 independent research institutions. Its 310,000 professionals are joined every year by around 50,000 newcomers with middle and higher education backgrounds. There are now more than 20,000 people working or studying here including those from Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao and foreign countries and regions..

Industrial structure
Such burgeoning industries have become the pillar of the Park as electronics, biopharmaceuticals and new materials, accounting for 75 percent of the gross industrial output of the Park.
