Xi-Ma Meeting

Updated: 2016-01-20 | By:

On November 7, 2015, Xi Jinping and Ma Ying-jeou, leaders from both sides of the Taiwan Straits, met in Singapore to exchange views on furthering the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations. This was a historic meeting, the first since 1949, of the leaders from both sides of the Taiwan Straits.

Both sides confirmed the progress that has been made in cross-Straits relations since 2008. They agreed to hold fast to the “1992 Consensus,” and specified a number of other key commitments: to consolidate common political ground, maintain peace and stability in the development of cross-Straits relations, increase communication and dialogue, and expand exchanges and cooperation to the benefit of everyone in both Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
