A Province with the Most Natural World Heritage Sites in China

Guizhou boasts unique karst and Danxia landforms as well as diversified natural landscapes. As of the end of 2020, Fanjing Mountain, Libo Karst, Shibing Karst, and Chishui Danxia had all been listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Guizhou has more Natural World Heritage Sites than any other Chinese provinces.

The Fanjing Mountain is known as the "City of the Sky" because of the flourishing of Buddhism and the complex of temples on the mountain. The four wonders of the mountain are cloud waterfalls, mist, mirage and Buddha light. The signature attractions here include the Red Clouds Golden Summit, the Ten-Thousand-Meter Sleeping Buddha, and the Mushroom Rock. Compared with the world's other mountains in the same latitude zone, the Fanjing Mountain features the best-preserved animals and plants, and has been listed as a national nature reserve of China. It was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2018.

Libo is located in the southern borderland of Guizhou, known as "an emerald on the waist belt of the earth". The name Libo comes from the Bouyei language, meaning beautiful hillside. Walking into Libo, you would feel like having an encounter with a visual feast. Your eyes would be pleased by one breathtaking sight after another, such as the Wolong Pond where water cascades downward in a beautiful arc and the Laya Waterfall amid verdant mountains.

The Yuntai Mountain is 13 kilometers north of Shibing County in Qiandongnan Prefecture. It stands out like a piece of green agate in its latitude zone. Like a giant bonsai, it is the oldest and best-preserved dolomite karst landform in the world, which is extremely rare and highly valuable for scientific research. The world's natural heritage experts have acclaimed it as "the world's most beautiful dolomite karst". In 2014, the Yuntai Mountain was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List for its uniqueness and typicality, as well as "extraordinary natural phenomena and exceptional natural aesthetic value".

Chishui Danxia boasts the largest Danxia landform area, with the most uniform rock exposure and the most iconic features. The highlight of the tourist area, a gigantic sheer cliff named Foguang Rock, is hailed as the greatest specimen of a Danxia landform in the world. When the afternoon sunlight hits it, it seems to glow like fire. In its midst is a waterfall that is 42 meters across and plunges for 269 meters, easily reminding people of the image of an elegant white dragon. The deep red cliff and white waterfall set each other off beautifully, exuding a strong sense of vitality.
