Hehe Town

The building of towns with unique features in Zhejiang Province is a brand-new exploration for its future development. Such towns are neither administratively defined towns nor industrial zones. They are in fact business startups and innovation platforms established in line with the new concept of innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development, and combining industrial, cultural, tourist and community functions. The design of such towns centers on the seven emerging industries of the province: IT economy, environmental protection, health, tourism, fashion, finance and high-end equipment. The building of such towns started from 2015.

In 2016, the Project of Hehe Town, featuring Hehe cultural tourism in the Tiantai Mountains, was put into the second construction list together with other 41 towns with unique features in Zhejiang. Located near the south entrance to the Guoqing Temple, Hehe Town has been built in the transition zone between Tiantai downtown and the Tiantai Mountains Scenic Spot. It is around 1.5 kilometers away from the downtown, covering an area of 3.02 square kilometers.

The most important and influential feature of the Tiantai Mountains is Hehe Culture, which developed during the period from the Western and Eastern Han, Wei and Jin dynasties to the Sui and Tang dynasties, and flourished after the Northern and Southern Song dynasties. It gradually developed into a unique regional culture characterized by the integration of Confucianism, Buddhism and Daoism.

Taking the drive to build towns with unique features in Zhejiang as an opportunity, the government of Tiantai County took the initiative to build the Tiantai Mountains Hehe Town as a cultural landmark, popular tourist destination, intangible cultural heritage site, health preservation base and innovative community in the province.

A center for the exchanges, display and communication of Hehe Culture, Hehe Town is also an important cultural landmark of Zhejiang Province. It will vigorously develop leisure and cultural tourism, health service industry, and cultural and creative industry, so as to build itself into a town with Hehe Culture as the core, cultural experience and natural scenery tourism as the main focus, and intangible cultural heritage and health preservation traditions as the distinctive traits.
