Chinese is one of the six official languages used in the UN and also the language with the largest number of native speakers in the world. To highlight the importance of linguistic and cultural diversity and promote equal use of Chinese in the UN, the UN has designated each year's April 20, which is the traditional Chinese solar term "Guyu" (Grain Rain), as the UN Chinese Language Day. This day commemorates the contribution of Cang Jie, the legendary inventor of Chinese characters.
