Kung Fu Gets Popular Among Chinese Schools

Performing Chinese kung fu just like Chinese movie stars Bruce Lee and Jacky Chan will no longer be a dream for many Chinese teenagers since it has been taken as a course in schools.

Sources from the Shenyang Education Bureau in northeast China's Liaoning Province said here recently that Chinese kung fu has already been promoted as a physical training course in more than 50 primary and middle schools in Shenyang.

"The students are more interested in the physical training course than before since the Kung fu enters schools," said Zhao Guang, a middle school physical teacher in Huanggu District of Shenyang.

Zhao and other 100 physical teachers received professional training of Kung fu in August this year. After the training, Zhao taught Kung fu to his students during the physical training course for about two hours each week.

Lu Guipu, an official with the Shenyang Education Bureau, said currently more than 10,000 students from over 50 schools in the city have received training of Kung fu, and more schools will be added to the program to promote Kung fu, the country's intangible heritage, in the coming years.

Lu said more training programs on Kung fu will be held for the city's physical teachers next year to meet the demand for professional teachers.
