Mainland Musician Lang Lang Migrates to Hong Kong
Adjust font size:

Famed Chinese mainland pianist Lang Lang became a Hong Kong resident Monday thanks to Hong Kong's "Quality Migrant Admission Scheme" launched in June. Lang Lang is the first talent imported by Hong Kong under the scheme and means that Lang Lang can now live and stay in Hong Kong without any Hong Kong-based employment.

Lang Lang spoke of his honor at being the first resident accepted under the scheme and is proud of being hailed on the world stage as a Chinese pianist despite having had several opportunities to change his citizenship.

According to the "Quality Migrant Admission Scheme" launched by Hong Kong this June, approved applicants may bring their spouses and unmarried children under 18 to live with them in Hong Kong. About 83 people, 76% of them from the mainland, have passed the first-round check. Most of the applicants are skilled workers in the fields of art, finance, trade and IT, followed by manufacturing, architecture, measurement and law.
