13-17 Premier Zhu Rongji visits the Republic of India at the invitation of his Indian counterpart Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This is the first visit of a Chinese premier to India since 1991.

24 The Chinese Government decides to offer an additional $150 million to aid Afghanistan's reconstruction. Prior to this, China provided the war-torn country with materials worth 30 million yuan and funds of $1 million at the founding of its interim government.
