11 The reorganization of China's civil aviation sector is completed. As a result of consolidation, six major groups are formed. They include Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, China TravelSky Holding Co., China Aviation Fuel Corp. and China Aviation Supplies Import and Export Corp.

22-25 At the invitation of U.S. President George W. Bush, President Jiang Zemin visits the United States. The Chinese leader stops in Chicago and Houston, and delivers a speech at the University of Texas in Austin, before meeting President Bush at his Crawford Ranch in Texas.

23 The first Chinese digitized visible human is born in Chongqing-based Third Military Medical University, which provides the first systematic, complete and detailed basic data and images of human anatomy in Asia.

24 Some 150 museum representatives from the Asia-Pacific region sign the Shanghai Charter in Shanghai Museum, which urges museums to play a more active role in the protection of intangible human heritages.

30 The Shanghai Gold Exchange opens for business, which signals the overall opening of the country's gold market after a 50-year closure.
