The Chinese government decided on May 27 to offer an urgent aid of US$2 million in cash for quake-hit Indonesia. A powerful earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale rocked Indonesia's province of Yogyakarta and several parts of Central Java at 5:55 AM local time on May 27. The death toll from the earthquake has exceeded 3,000, said Indonesia's social affairs ministry.
