Chinese Vice Premier Underlines Democratic Decision Mechanism

Vice Premier Wen Jiabao Tuesday underlines that the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government should work out a scientific and democratic decision mechanism to evaluate important decisions.

Wen, who is also member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, called on members from the economic circles attending the 10th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) when they were having their panel discussion, and listened attentively to their opinions and suggestions.

Acknowledging that the task of modernization construction facing China is very arduous, he said the only way out is to give scope to all positive factors and rely on the joint efforts of the people throughout the country under the leadership of the CPC.

He went on say that rules and procedures for making major decisions should be further improved. Significant issues of concern to the national economy and social development have to be evaluated by specialists from various departments and industries, he added, and special attention should be paid to different opinions as criticisms can often help avoid errors and mistakes indecision making.

Members of the CPPCC National Committee from China's economic circles conferred on topics on employment, social security system, the development of the country's western regions, in-depth reform on State-owned enterprises, and other major issues of major concern at the session.
