Beijing Police Fight Against Domestic Violence
Adjust font size:

Be careful that the police will punish you for beating your wife! It is learnt that the 110 call center in Beijing's Fengtai District will take actions against all received family violence cases.

Jing Suju, director of the investigation, research and right protection department of the Fengtai District women's federation, indicated during an interview on the 21st that in 2006 they will join hands with the Fengtai District public security authority to establish the anti-family violence intervention mechanism and the 110 center will dispatch policemen upon any report of such cases.

As they used to be not responsible for solving conflicts within a family, the police would decide whether or not to dispatch policemen on the basis of the seriousness of a family violence case. Starting from this year, Fengtai public security unit will reinforce intervention of the 110 police to tackle family violence cases. The 110 police will take actions under all circumstances after receiving a call on such cases and intercede in unserious family violence cases while adopting legal measures to handle relatively serious cases.

According to Jing, Fengtai District now has a total of 251 residential communities and 69 rural committees. 30 percent of its communities reported no family violence cases last year. The district will strive to raise the ratio to 70 percent this year and to 100 percent by 2008.
