Senior Provincial Legislator Dismissed for Graft
Adjust font size:

A senior legislator from China's eastern Jiangsu Province was dismissed from the national parliament on Tuesday for alleged involvement in corruption.

Wang Wulong, 64, deputy chief of the provincial legislature and a deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC), was suspected of taking bribes of about 5.35 million yuan (US$668,000) and 200,000 Hong Kong dollars, according to a legislative source.

The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress approved the dismissal of Wang as an NPC deputy at the closing of a five-day legislative session on Tuesday.

"Wang gravely violated discipline, took bribes, and interfered with the work of local Communist Party's discipline inspection body," said the dismissal document submitted to the Standing Committee of NPC by the provincial legislature of Jiangsu.

The document gave no more details of Wang's corruption scandal or the investigation.
