Glaser Comes to Beijing to Discuss DPRK Frozen Funds
Adjust font size:

US Deputy Assistant Treasury Secretary Daniel Glaser landed in Beijing on Sunday following the recess of the six-party talks after the frozen funds issue remained unresolved.

Although Glazer had no comment upon arrival, a US embassy press source revealed that Glaser will meet with Chinese officials on Monday.

On Glazer’s agenda will be discussing the transfer of North Korea’s frozen funds from the Macao-based Banco Delta Asia (BDA).

The inability to close the transfer brought the six-party talks to an abrupt recess on Thursday although the leader of the Chinese delegation, Wu Dawei, pledged they would restart soon. Wu further admitted the transfer of the DPRK's funds had been an unexpected roadblock, but that all sides would make concerted efforts to overcome it.

On Sunday, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing spoke with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on the phone. The two officials spoke on plowing ahead with developing Sino-US relations and the six-party talks, according to a Foreign Ministry press release.
