Becoming an Olympics Translator
Adjust font size:

Beijing-based Yuanpei Century Translation Company, the official translation supplier for the Beijing Olympics, has revealed its plan to recruit 900 translators worldwide for the work.

A local newspaper Wednesday quotes the company's general manager Jiang Xiaolin as saying, "900 more translators and interpreters are needed to join our 600 employees for the mission."

Translation and interpretation work for the 2008 Games will involve over 100 languages, but those specializing in English, French and Spanish are most wanted.

Jiang Xiaolin adds that 30 percent of the vacancies available are for foreigners, with an average annual salary of US$19,191, while Chinese workers can expect 100,000 yuan (US$12,794).

The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in December picked the pioneering language service company as the official translation supplier.
