China Creates More Jobs for Americans

U.S. President George W. Bush admitted that China's prosperous market and huge market demands have provided more job opportunities for Americans, during his visit to the Caterpillar Manufacturing Facility in Illinois State on January 30.

Bush toured the Caterpillar production facility and commended Caterpillar for its success. In his speech referring to Sino-U.S. bilateral trade, he acknowledged the existence of disputes and trade frictions. He highlighted that Caterpiller, a heavy machinery manufacturing company now investing in China, is growing profits from evident benefits it has generated from the Chinese market.

In recent years, Caterpillar's exports to China have soared, making China a major destination for its products and creating more than 5,000 employment opportunities.

Statistics released by Caterpiller showed that stronger market demands from China and overseas countries have pushed its sales revenue up to maintain a double-digit increase in four consecutive years. Last year, its sales income and profts hit US$41.5 billion and US$3.5 billion, respectively, marking the highest growth records in history.

Bush also urged the Congress to support his free trade policies and blamed over trade protectionism for the loss of public confidence in the business and national competitve-ness of the United States.
