China Resumes Exporting White Rabbit Creamy Candy

China began to transport to foreign destinations 10 containers of White Rabbit creamy candy, which previously were held up at port because of alleged formaldehyde contamination, People's Daily learned from the candy's producer, Shanghai Guan Sheng Yuan (Group) Co. Ltd., on July 23.

The company said seven containers were shipped to Singapore, Costa Rica, Malaysia, India, Nepal and the United States on July 20. As the candy has been proven free from formaldehyde, some foreign dealers have increased their orders, it added.

A Singaporean dealer ordered more White Rabbit creamy candy from Guan Sheng Yuan on July 22. Singapore's Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority proved, after conducting sample tests, that the candy met the standards of the World Health Organization and determined it was safe for consumption, the dealer said. A Malaysian dealer said it asked Guan Sheng Yuan to ship one container of the candy to Malaysia immediately after watching the press conference on food safety held by China's State Council, the country's cabinet. A Hong Kong dealer told the company that Hong Kong's Center for Food Safety tested candy samples from supermarkets and found them free from formaldehyde contamination.
