Shenzhen-based Mainland Headwear Holdings has won an exclusive license to make hats for the Beijing Olympic Games.
The company has been granted sole rights by the Beijing Olympic Games Organizing Committee to produce hats with the Olympic insignia and sell them to officially designated department stores, initially in Beijing but later in other mainland cities.
A company spokeswoman said the first 20,000 hats sold out last Thursday and she expected sales to be extended to stores in Shanghai, Dalian and Guangzhou.
To cope with demand, the company plans to spend more than US$10 million to build a factory capable of producing up to 84,000 caps a day.
