Beijing Olympics Project Funds in Place

Beijing's Olympics project funds are now in place, and the problem of holding back funds will not arise, said Chinese Vice Minister of Construction Huang Wei Thursday.

Huang told reporters at a press conference hosted by the State Council Information Office that a range of measures have been carried out for preventing unpaid project funds.

For the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, China needs to build a total of 37 gymnasiums and stadiums for holding competitions, 59 sports grounds for training, and many other establishments related to athletes' and visitors' living.

Some construction items carried out by the State General Administration of Sport can get investment directly from the Chinese central government, and the others can raise funds through representatives chosen by a public bidding process.

Unpaid funds directly effect the wages of farmer laborers working on the projects. The Beijing municipal government has regulated that all projects started after July, 2004 must stop holding back payments for farmer laborers.
