Xu Hui and Guo Yue claimed the mixed doubles title at the National Table Tennis Championships on Friday. They defeated Wang Liqin and Zhang Jing 4-2 at the tournament in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province.
Representing the national team, Xu Hui and Guo Yue faced Shanghai's Wang Liqin and Zhang Jing in the highly anticipated final.
Wang and Zhang proved a strong team, working well together to take the first two sets.
But then Xu and Guo changed their strategy, taking the next two sets and leveling the score.
The decider was tense, but Xu and Guo's efforts paid off... they sealed the victory 4-2.
For Xu Hui, this is his first time to win a national title.
Xu Hui said, "I'm so happy with the result. It's no easy task to win a national level competition. Our morale improved in the third set, and we changed our strategy, which helped us win."
Fresh from the Athens Olympic, Guo Yue is on a role.
Guo Yue said, "My confidence has increased a lot thanks to the Athens Olympics. It helped a lot in this competition."
On the same day, the women's singles quarterfinals ended with Bai Yang, Jiang Huajun, Guo Yan and Xu Qin making it through to the semis.
