Gong Remains Women's Team Coach

Gong Luming remains as the head coach of the Chinese women's basketball team when the China's National Basketball Administrative Center announced the coaching staff of the new national team on Wednesday.

"There is not going to be much change to our coaching thoughts for the new national team despite the disappointing results from the Athens Olympics this summer," said Gong, who led China to only the 9th placing in the Games.

With Chen Dechun keeping his assistant coaching job in the national team, Fan Bin, who retired from the national men's team after the Games, and Sun Fengwu, head coach of the national women's youth team, joined Gong's coaching team.

Gong, who took the position after the 2000 Sydney Olympics, shoulders Chinese hope to have triumph in the 2008 Beijing Games.

Chinese women won the silver medals at the 1996 Atlanta Games, but failed to qualify for the Sydney Olympics.
