Table tennis grand slam winner Kong Linghui said on Thursday that retirement is not on his agenda yet and he will fight until the 2008 Olympic Games.
The 30-year-old, pairing up with Wang Hao, won the men's doubles title at the world championships here after edging German duo Timo Boll/Christian Suss 4-1 in the final Thursday night.
"This is the first major title that I have won since the 2000 Sydney Games," said Kong, the men's singles gold medalist in Sydney.
Kong was rumored to retire soon after he and Wang were knocked out in the first round of men's doubles at last year's Athens Olympics. But the player from northeastern China's Heilongjiang province won't give up and hopes to play until the 2008 Olympics.
"Table tennis fans gave us a lot of support," said Kong, the most popular male player in China. "I will wait and see whether I can play in the Beijing Games."
Kong is the third grand slam winner of Olympic, world championships and World Cup men's singles title. The other winners are Liu Guoliang of China and Jan-Ove Walder of Sweden.
