Zheng, Yan Pull off First Doubles win at French Open

Zheng Jie and Yan Zi seized their first doubles victory Wednesday at the French Open tennis grand slam as they eased past makeshift pair Czech Denisa Chladkova and Ruxandra Dragomir Ilie of Romania 6-1, 6-2 in the first round.

Zheng, losing to Italian 22nd seed Francesca Schiavone Tuesday in her first round match, said they did not face many challenges in the match.

"I think it was not a tough match for us thanks to thorough preparation before it," said Zheng, who has paired up with Yan to win two WTA titles this season.

"I felt that I did normally, bring out about 70 or 80%," she said.

The Chinese 16th seeds will next face Anna Tchakvetadze of Russia and Indian Sania Mirza, who pushed aside Kristina Brandi of Puerto Rico and Japanese Nana Miyagi, 6-2, 6-3.

"We really don't want to set a high goal for us. We just try to do our best and see what happens, but we did improve in some aspects on claycourt this season, trying to bring more changes into our play," Zheng said.

She and Yan were eliminated in the first round here in their French Open doubles debut while Zheng made Chinese singles player's first ever appearance in the women's last 16.
