Peng Shuai Loses to Davenport

Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai has nearly worked a miracle in French Open, but two points away from a win in the second set saw the teenager edged out by Lindsay Davenport 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-0.

The 19-year-old shocked everyone in the first set. Davenport broke in the third game, but the Chinese rallied right away to level the score and make it another break in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead, boosting her opening set win.

Peng continued to give the rival great pressure in the second set and managed another two breaks. But Davenport's experience made different, helping the 28-year-old survive at the zero hour, coming back in the decider with 7-4.

The American veteran re-picked her form in the third set and eased past the morale-hit Peng with a comfortable six love in 22 minutes to trudge into the third round.

Peng's loss makes Chinese campaign in women's singles competition came to end. The other Chinese Zheng Jie, who broke into the fourth round at the tournament last year, was ousted in the first round.
