Beijing Starts Renovation of Fengtai Softball Field for Olympics

Beijing on Thursday started renovating the Fengtai Softball Field, a competion venue for the 2008 Olympic Games.

The Fengtai Softball Field, the first among all Olympic venues that are planned for renovation, is located in the south of the Chinese capital and within half hour of drive from the Olympic Green, the most centralized area of Olympic venues.

 

The field, which covers a floor space of about 15,570 square meters, has two competition grounds and one training ground.

 

It is scheduled to be completed by the end of June next year and put into use for the world softball championship in August.

 

A total of 31 competition venues will be used for the 26 sports that will be contested in Beijing. Of them, 11 are to be built from scratch, 11 are to be renovated and nine are temporary facilities.
