Chinese players have sailed through to the second round at the Rogers Cup, a $1.3 million WTA Tier I event, in Toronto, Canada.

Li Na, defeated 13th-seeded Jelena Jankovic 6-4, 5-7 and 6-2 while qualifier Zheng Jie beat Maria Emilia Salerni in two straight sets: 6-3, 6-4.

Li Na will next take on the winner between M.Vento-Kabchi and M-E.Pelletier.

Meanwhile, Zheng Jie will take on Japanese veteran Ai Sugiyama in the second round. Their previous encounter was at the Olympics in Athens last year where Zheng lost a fierce fight 6-4, 3-6 and 6-8.

In other matches, defending champion Amelie Mauresmo of France sailed through her second round while 3rd seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia also advanced to the third round.
