Peng Loses at New Haven Tournament

Chinese rising star Peng Shuai was beaten by Russian Vera Douchevina 4-6, 4-6 at the $6000,00 New Haven Tennis Tournament, losing the chance to compete with fourth seed Elena Dementieva for a second time.

After getting injured at the JP Morgan Open, Peng withdrew from Rogers Cup. Consequently, her WTA ranking fell to 35 from last week's 31. This was Peng's first official game after she fought through three qualification matches.

Till now, there is no Chinese player at New Haven. Li Na didn't participate due to her ankle injury and Zheng Jie failed to get through the qualification games.
